Ways to Participate in the Muskegon Area Arts & Humanities Festival
- Pick up a Calendar of Events and highlight events you want to attend.
- Get a group of people together to attend the events.
- Meet with a group after each event and discuss its relationship to the theme.
- Keep a Festival Journal of your thoughts and reflections of the theme and events of the festival.
- Read the Festival Book – Sailing Alone Around the Room by Billy Collins.
- Attend the festival's kick-off weekend, October 1st .
- Visit the ‘Festival Fish’ Art Project located around the Muskegon area.
- Make a bid on a piece of the Festival Fish art project silent auction.
- Read festival articles in The Chronicle.
- Get to know the Muskegon Area by attending one event each week.
- Encourage the different groups you participate in to integrate the theme Art & Entertainment into their programs during the month of October.

Ways to Celebrate Arts & Humanities Month
- Read a book out loud.
- Invite local musicians to perform "brown bag" lunchtime concerts in your public square.
- Write an essay on the value of arts education to the students in your community.
- Have teachers engage students in a National Arts and Humanities Month project and have the theme be Art & Entertainment .
- Arrange a student art exhibition to be displayed at the school, a local business, the public library, or local government center.
- Hold a sing-a-long once every week during October on the steps of City Hall.
- Host a storytelling session for people of all ages to share personal tales of Art & Entertainment at local bookstores, libraries, or schools.
- Organize a talent show.
- Recognize someone in your community who has contributed time or talent to the arts or humanities.
- Sponsor a Halloween story event for children.
- Organize a class in paper making or painting or modern dance or creative writing!
- Create a community photo album. Invite local residents to donate old photographs and take new ones throughout the month.
- Invite a college art, music, dance, or theatre student to spend an hour at the high school talking about their course of study.
- Host a poetry reading with a Art & Entertainment focus.
