County Parks

Muskegon County Parks

Pets are allowed in all county parks. They must be on a leash and under supervision by the owner at all times. Droppings must be cleaned up. Pets are not allowed on beaches or in buildings.

County Parks are open May - September, 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m., and sunrise to sunset during the off season.

Blue Lake Park

Blue Lake Park

With nearly 600 feet of frontage along the southeast shore of the Big Blue Lake, this 25-acre park is the perfect place for fishing, boating, water-skiing, and camping. A boat launch is located at Deremo Access Site on the north side of Blue Lake. Blue Lake County Park is located on Big Blue Lake north of Muskegon on Nichols Road. Take US 31 to the Russell Road exit. Go north on Russell Rd to Owassippie Road. Head east on Owassippie on mile to Nichols Road, then turn left (north). The entrance is approximately 1/4 mile down Nichols Rd.

Meinert Park

Meinert Park

Tucked away at the north end of the county, Meinert Park offers a quiet retreat for the outdoor enthusiast. Meinert Park is 88 acres with rolling dunes, including a large parabolic dune and scenic overlooks providing spectacular views of Little Flower Creek and the Lake Michigan shoreline. Visitors can climb the unimproved trail to the top of a dune for a panoramic view of lake Michigan and the surrounding countryside. Meinert County Park is located on Lake Michigan north of Montague at the end of Meinert Road. Take U.S. 31 to the Fruitvale Road Exit, go right (west) on Fruitvale Road to Old 31, turn right (north) and follow Old 31 one (1) mile to Meinert Road, turn left (west).  The park entrance is approximately 5 miles at Lake Michigan.

Moore Park

Moore Park

Moore Park is 36 acres of hills, woodlands, wetlands and grassy open areas with 1,500-foot shoreline on Half Moon Lake. Moore Park is located on Half Moon Lake one mile north of the junction of M37 and M46 on the east side of Muskegon County. The lake is a popular attraction for fishing, boating and swimming. Other activities are picnicking, sunbathing and walking on paved roadways or in the woods. Facilities available for public use include a small picnic shelter, park grills & tables, restrooms and an unimproved boat launch. Open year-round with limited access for park activities in the off-season. Telephone (231) 744-3580.

Patterson Park

Patterson Park

Patterson Park is located on the Little Rio Grande Creek two miles southwest of Ravenna on Blackmer Road.  The park is 28 acres on the river flood plain with wooded and open areas.  A variety of wild flowers bloom throughout the spring and summer offering the visitor the opportunity to view species not common to most areas in Muskegon County. The park is a quiet setting with restrooms, a small picnic shelter grills and tables.  Walking along the riverbank and sitting next to the small dam and spillway are picturesque and relaxing activities. Pioneer Park

Pioneer Park

This popular 145-acre park offers camping, swimming, sunbathing, picnicking, tennis, softball, basketball and volleyball. The park is filled with a variety of mixed oak, maple, white pine and hemlock pine trees. This is our largest and most popular park. Pioneer Park is located on Lake Michigan and has over 2,000 feet of white sandy beach frontage. Pioneer park is located on Lake Michigan on Scenic Drive, north of Muskegon.  Take US 31 to the Fremont/Big Rapids (M120) Exit, go south west on M120 to Giles Road, turn right (west) on Giles and follow 5 miles to the end of the road.  Turn right (north) on Scenic Drive, the park entrance is one quarter of a mile on the left.

Twin Lake Park

Twin Lake Park

Twin Lake Park is a 15-acre park with shaded and open areas for family outdoor activities. The park has 800 feet of frontage on Twin Lake and is very popular for picnicking and swimming. There is a designated dog area next to the boat access. Twin Lake County Park is located on Twin Lake north of Muskegon on M-120.  Take U.S. 31 to the Fremont/Big Rapids (M-120) exit, go north on M-120 to the village of Twin Lake, turn left (north) on Blue Lake Road. The park entrance is 1/4 mile on the left.

Here is a brief exerpt on the highlights of this ordinance:

Code Of Ordinances – Chapter 6: Section 5

All dogs and cats shall be kept under restraint, except for a service animal actively engaged in performing its duty or a dog actively engaged in training or performance event or competition. Dogs or cats shall not be permitted to be at large in the city. The owner of every dog or cat shall be held responsible for every behavior of such cat or dog. Fecal matter shall be collected and removed from the area where the animal is harbored or kept.

This park has about one mile of Lake Michigan Beach and the park spans 52.3 acres. There is a major picnic area with 4 picnic shelters and an accessible ramp to the beach and into the dunes. The dog beach is located at the northern part of the park. Facilities include 2 parking lots, nature trails, barrier dunes, accessible dune walkways, a playground, dune overlooks, picnic shelters, restrooms, and a basketball court.
