Matting and Framing Workshops
$20/$15 MMA members. 6:00-7:30 p.m. Each class is limited to 20 participants. There are no rules in art and no firm rules in framing. However, there are picture framing materials, techniques, and design principles that are safer for your artwork, easy on your budget, and provide a contemporary museum- style presentation. This 90-minute workshop with MMA Preparator Keith Downie will focus primarily on framing artwork on paper (including photographs), with a brief discussion of options for framing oil and acrylic paintings. Participants are encouraged to bring one small paper- piece to mat in the workshop (maximum 12x16 inches.) Covered topics will include: Identifying “archival” matting and glazing materials, essential mat cutting tools, cutting and assembling window mats, hinging and mounting artworks on paper, mat colors and frame style considerations, where to buy materials (local, catalogue, and online), and maximizing “ala carte” services from frame shops. Mirror, Mirror Fairy Tale Art
This event is co-sponsored by Hackley Library Youth Services and the Muskegon Museum of Art. Native American Super Saturday Free Family Fun Day
Second Saturdays of the month are made for fun at the MMA. Each Super Saturday features a different theme and free activities and admission. Underwritten by the Alcoa Foundation, supporting Howmet communities. In April, the Muskegon Museum of Art and the Lakeshore Museum Center collaborate. Explore the history and culture of American Indians with activities at both museums. Earn a stamp for four different activities at the museums. After you earn all of the four activity stamps, you will be eligible to enter a drawing to win Kaya, an American Girl® doll representing the Nez Perce tribe, and additional Native American inspired objects. Entry forms must be dropped off at the Muskegon Museum of Art. Activity stations will be open at both museums from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Drawing will take place at the art museum at 2:45 p.m. In addition, the animated film Pocahontas will show at the art museum at

Arts & Craft Fair in the Park
This three day fair will be held in conjunction with the Pow Wow in Hackley Park, downtown Muskegon. Artists and crafters from all around the state will be showing their works in wood crafting, silver. candle making, stained glass, baby clothes, dog treats, scrapbooking, handmade soaps, Indian crafts, and more. Dragonfest
The week of Dragonfest kicks off with a free movie, “Dragons, A Fantasy Made Real.” The movie is sponsored by Harbor Light Credit Union, and is produced by the Discovery Channel and Narrated by Patrick Stewart. The show is free, and will run Monday, June 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Howmet Playhouse. Also beginning Monday, the Nuveen Center will host a week of hands-on art classes: Dragon Puppet Making, Damsel and Knight Hat Making, 3D Dragons, and Dragon drawing. On Thursday, June 17 at 1:00 p.m., the Book Nook & Java Shop in Montague will host Dragon story hour. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, June 17 – 19, Nuveen’s Youth Theatre group will present a collage of dragon themed plays, music, and dance at the Howmet Playhouse. The pre-show fun begins at 7 p.m., with outdoor music by local musicians and drawing by professional cartoon artist Scott Rosema. Thursday evening will feature singer/guitarist Mike Snell performing dragon songs. On Friday, Andrew Goldstein will also perform dragon songs. White Lake Area Arts & Crafts Festival

Children’s Art for Children
Youth are invited to the Nuveen Center for a craft’s open house in which they can create artwork both for themselves, and for the Children’s Hospital. Participants will have the chance to use their own handmade stamp to design clay tiles, which will end up in a large mural designed by Cara O’Brien. They can also help work on a collage of the Montague/Whitehall area, create silly doctors and nurses using animal faces from magazines, and experience printmaking, along with other projects led my Missy Morrow. Nuveen will provide refreshments to thank participants for their efforts. The crafts open house is free and open to all area youth. Youth Summer Art Classes
Youth classes will run Monday – Thursday, June 14 – August 19, with a different art theme each week. The Gerber Foundation and the DTE Energy Foundation have provided generous grants to help the Nuveen Community Center for the Arts offer reduced price summer art classes for youth. Roosevelt Park Day
Kicking off the festivities is a 5K run at 8:00 a.m. Westwood Reform Church is hosting a Pancake Breakfast from 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. The church is located at 3025 Glenside Boulevard.
