Join the Lakeshore Museum Center for the family friendly free event from 1:00-3:00 p.m. You'll explore 400 million years of Michigan in the making, including a prehistoric exploration of plants and animals, an underwater habitat, a swampy forest, the last ice age, the Great Lakes and its fascinating creatures! "Thank Goodness for the Red Cross" explores the 93 year history of the local chapter of the American Red Cross with photos, certificates and information about how the organization has served the community. The exhibit is on display in the document case in the Voices of Muskegon Gallery at the Lakeshore Museum Center. Open every day with free admission.    May 15, 2010 Annual Armed Forces Day at the LST-393
The 4th Annual Armed Forces Day will be held in the open air on the shore adjacent to the ship, open to the public at no charge. The program starts at 12:00 Noon. Activities include: Singing of the National Anthem by Flo Platko; Patriotic songs by the "Barber Shoppers," from the Muskegon County Chorus Presentation of the Colors by the Muskegon Sea Cadets, Keynote address by Susan Harrison Wolffis, Muskegon Chronicle, Precision drill exhibition by the Eagles 6688 Auxiliary Drill Team, Honor Guard Gun Salute by VFW 446, light refreshments aboard ship. This event will also be the kick off of a six month program to collect non perishable food items to benifit the "Veterans Food Pantry" maintained by, and located at, the "Muskegon Co. Veterans Center" on Apple Ave. Food items may be dropped off at the LST 393 at any time, and we will deliver the items to the Veterans Center weekly www.lst393.org

May 22, 2010 - May 23, 2010 Pow Wow in the Park
This two day event is held in Hackley Park, downtown Muskegon. Grand Entry, Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., and Sunday at 12 Noon. Instructions in Pow Wow dancing, intertribal dancing, Jingle Dress, Fancy Shawl, Grass Dance, Sneak Up, Blanket Dance and more. All dancers are welcome. Native Vendors offering Native American arts and crafts will be attending. Public is welcome. No admission charge. Bring your lawn chair. The Lions Club will be offering a Pancake Breakfast May 21-22. All proceeds will benefit the Muskegon River Band of Ottawa Indians in their bid for federal recognition.    May 30, 2010 Caboose Museum to Celebrate First Birthday
Whitehall's Caboose Museum will have a gala birthday party on May 30. All are invited. The museum, a lovingly restored C & O caboose, built in 1926, contains railroad artifacts donated and loaned by local residents. A DVD tells the story of railroading in the White Lake Area. Tour the USS LST-393 historic ship and get a great view of Muskegon's Air Show. The World War II landing craft will open Saturday and Sunday for tours for a $5 donation that includes front row seating on the ship to see the Summer Celebration Air Show from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. both days. Apr 14, 2010 - Jul 06, 2010 Collector's Corner - Tumble Ups Exhibit
Collector's Corner at the Lakeshore Museum Center features "Tumble Ups" on display. Tumble ups - also known as guest sets, night sets or nite sets are carafes placed on a night stand. A small tumbler is turned upside-down on top of a pitcher to act as both a stopper and a drinking glass. Over 40 tumble ups from the collection of Bob and Carolyn Buboltz are included in the exhibit. Some are made from Depression Glass, others have floral patterns and many different styles and colors of glass are featured. The Collector's Corner offers local collectors space to share their treasures with Museum visitors. Open every day with free admission.    Aug 13, 2010 USS Flier SS250 Memorial Ceremony
The Ceremony marks the 66th Anniversary of the loss of the USS Flier and her crew. On August 13, 1944 the USS Flier struck a mine and quickly sank. Fourteen of 86 crew members escaped, but only eight survived the subsequent long swim to reach shore. On February 1, 2010 the United States Navy confirmed that the sunken sub discovered in the Balabac Strait of the Philippines was the WWII Submarine, the USS Flier. Aug 19, 2010 - Aug 22, 2010 Two European Tall Ships Coming to Muskegon
The Bark Europa from the Netherlands and Roald Amundsen from Germany will be stopping in Muskegon August 19 - 22. Visitors are welcome to come down and tour both ships for a donation. They will be available for tours on Friday from 10:00am - 5:00pm. The Roald Amundsen will depart at 12:00pm on Saturday and the Europa will continue tours from 10:00am - 5:00pm on Saturday and Sunday. The Europa will then depart Monday morning. The two ships are in the Great Lakes as part of the Great Lakes United TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE 2010 Race to Save the Great Lakes. Both ships will be docked at 560 Mart Street in downtown Muskegon. Sep 11, 2010 - Sep 12, 2010 Civil War Living History Event
Co-sponsored by the Lakeshore Museum Center and Company F of the Third Michigan Infantry there will be company drill demonstrations, a tactical battle demonstration, visits to Civil War and civilian camps, live music and workshops with the Dodsworth Saxhorn Band, an Ecumenical service and more at Hilt's Landing, off Durham Road in Northern Muskegon County. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children 5-18 and free admission for children under 5. A family pass is $12. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. "Mysteries, Memories and Mayhem” tells the story of August Bell who arrived in Muskegon in 1855 and went to work in the lumbering visit. The display in the document case at the Lakeshore Museum Center recalls the disappearance of Bell’s partner with Bell’s money and his efforts to locate them.    Dec 04, 2010 Holiday Heritage Home Tour
Each year the Nelson Neighborhood Improvement Association holds this annual tour which draws hundreds to see some of Muskegon's most unique, historic homes. The tour begins at the Union Depot in downtown Muskegon and is self directed by car. A map and historic information will be provided. Refreshments will be provided at some of the tour stops. The tour is from 12 Noon to 5:00 p.m. Tickets are $10.00 per person, age 12 and under free. Join the Lakeshore Museum Center to see over 30 unique items from their collection on display in this new exhibit. Community members and staff chose their favorites and this eclectic exhibit is full of Muskegon County history. Over 30 unique artifacts were selected from our extensive collection by museum friends and staff members. Find out what's on display, why the artifacts caught the participant's eyes and the history of the items included in the exhibit. Julia Hackley's dress from 1890 is on display along with a 1938 Sleigh, Frauenthal Theatre spot light, the Occidental Hotel switchboard and much more. The exhibit will be on display through 2010.
