The museum features a two-story building filled with educational exhibits focused on World War II, submarine missions, and naval operations. The USS Silversides has been featured in multiple film and television productions. In the 2002 movie Below, the submarine was used for exterior scenes to represent the fictional USS Tiger Shark. The vessel was towed into Lake Michigan for filming, and sets were based on its actual design. The Silversides also appeared in the 2014 movie The Adventures of Mickey Matson and the Pirate’s Code, starring Christopher Lloyd. In 2013, the Smithsonian Channel featured the submarine in the premiere episode of season two of Hell Below, a documentary series focused on submarine warfare in World War II.
